Ethanol added to gasoline, by Eagle |
reply Mar 29, '07 7:49 AM |
Hi everyone, I just noted on the Sunoco gas pump where I buy my gas that they now add 10% ethanol to their gas. I was under the impression that the use of ethanol, being cheaper to produce, would somehow lower the gas price. However, their gas is always to the 10th of a cent the same as neighboring gas station (Esso, Petro Canada). Any thoughts if Sunoco, is gouging us more by not passing on the savings?

No posts since Sep 24/06 for N.S.?
Since regulation was passed here, there's not much to report, since prices are locked. :-(
The provincial gov't has us hostage.

musicianguy - I have started driving right on the speed limit whether on the city or highway. I feel I'm saving a bit doing that. The other thing I do is change my air filter regularly. The only other thing you could start doing is take the spare tire out and for pickup trucks and cargo cans they could take the bumpers off. Of course riding with no bumpers isn't too safe so I don't see that happening. Have a great day and easy on the pedal. :)
Sharpie- The prices remain unchanged here but I've heard of some stations in other areas charging as much 1.80 a litre. I don't know if I should believe that price or not. I guess I will wait to see it for myself. Talk to you soon! :)

let's do something about it, by musicianguy |
reply Sep 22, '05 2:26 PM |
So far this site is all about posting the prices. Everyone seems to know the best prices in their communities. What are we going to do about it? So far I have been buying a lot less gas more often which increase their costs because I charge the gas on purpose. It is inconvenient but it is a start. Are there any other suggestions other than car pooling and/or walking ?? This site should be about getting proactive to counter this gouging because our leaders are totally useless!!

SS- How's it going? The price of gas is still the same here, but I don't think it will stay that way much longer. That hurricane Rita is now a category 4 and looks like it might hit Galveston,TX where a lot of oil and gas is. Let's hope it loses some speed and veers away from Galveston. Talk to you when you get home and I hope you were easy on the gas pedal. ;)

one form of protest, by musicianguy |
reply Aug 23, '05 7:52 AM |
If the majority of people could commit to some inconvenience for a time we could send a strong message to the retailers who in turn should complain to the wholesaler. I have been buying only $10 worth of gas when I need it($15 when the price has dropped by at least 2 penneis). In addition I use interact or a credit card each time. This method is expensive for the retailer but will only be effective if enough people do it consistently. It is inconveneient but if you buy less gas (even 50% less) and either charge it or use interact, this will defintely get their attention. Think about it before dismissing it.

canadian tire, by guynaub |
reply May 4, '05 6:54 AM |
What I find discusting is that Canadian Tire sets it's own prices. We only have one other gas station and it is an Esso. We pay 95.5 here in Elliot Lake. They blame it on shipping costs. Why is it with sales of the week the price is the same across the province, yet gas prices vary?

Newfoundland Trip (Bill-Montreal), by BillEisenhower |
reply Oct 29, '04 9:14 AM |
On a recent trip to St-John's Newfoundland I rented a Lincoln Towncar while I was there on business. I got a good deal because I got a luxury car for the price of a Taurus. What I saved on the car is what I paid in gas. I went for a 3 hour scenic drive to Gander and my tank was almost empty. The BIG 3 automakers have to go start making more efficient cars that use less fuel.
Gas in Newfoundland is almost 1.00/litre imagine that? Wake up and fight back you people out there, NF has oil ressources and there is no way in the world has should be selling at such a high price. What a bad deal Newfoundland got from joining confederation in 1949.

And some of those eastern provinces are 'price controlled', where the government mandates the upper and lower boundaries for price. Anecdotally, it appears that those area generally have higher prices because of it (always at the upper end of the scale).
